Made With Love Delivers Fun and Support to Local Schools

At the request of Angel Oak (AOE) and Frierson elementary schools, participants in Kiawah Cares’s Made With Love (MWL) program have embarked on a frenzy of craft making.

The first deliveries to AOE were made in early September, with packages consisting of a fleece blanket, fleece pillow, little stuffed fleece bunny called a Buddy, and a book. The packages were given to each of the 19 3-year-olds starting pre-K. The school also received 56 fleece comfort blankets for teachers to use when students exhibit troubled or sad behavior.

Frierson Elementary on Wadmalaw Island requested a puppy pillow for each class’s goal-achieving readers as a reward at the end of school. Some were made from fleece, some from cotton fabrics, but all are loved! The puppy pillows included a pocket filled with at least one used book. Students were thrilled to receive their new pillows and books.

But the MWL program isn’t done yet! In fact, they are just starting their school initiatives for the year. Angel Oak has also asked for 300 larger blankets for their students, and there will be a special reading program at Frierson.

To get involved with this incredible member-led program, come out for MWL Fleece Friday. This event takes place each Friday through May 18 (with some exceptions for holidays – view the Kiawah Cares event calendar for all upcoming dates) from 10 a.m. – 12 p.m. at 23 Beachwalker Drive. No need to RSVP – just show up and start making a difference on the Sea Islands.
